Hi Ben;

They do look pretty similar don't they. I guess you don't know how it arrived in your shop?

Here's the link:
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2653085&id=135428561771

Thanks for posting. I'll be sure to pass this on to my Peer relatives.

Next time I'm in Farmersville, I'll have to drop in and see you. My family used to visit Athens to see my Aunt Alma (Richards) and to stay at a cottage on Charleston Lake. Man that was a lifetime ago.

regards

At Sundial Secondhand in Athens, I have an old photo marked "Falkner Athens Ont." I found your site by looking up Falkner out of interest for Athens history, but it also looks to me that my photo is of the same couple pictured on this page (William Peer and Minnie Cooper.) I thought it was cool to see something from an Athens business I hadn't heard of. Now very cool to find this site!
I've posted it in a Facebook album called Stuff@Sundial. Follow the link on our website if you want to see it.

I have changed my e-mail address from my previous message.

This may not mean much but I live in North Augusta, the village where Jos. Fournell had his studio. I don’t know a lot about the man. He still has relitives living in and around the area. I would love to get photos taken by Jos Fournel of buildings in and around the North Augusta area. i’m trying to put together a scrap book of the history of North Augusta.

If you or anyone has information on these photos please contact me at johnvan18 [ AT ] yahoo.ca.

Thank you

Well, I guess posting your comment is a good start. A quick search on Google came up with another Jos. Fournell photo at DeadFred.com

And here is a census portrait of the photographer's family in North Augusta in 1870:

Only the top photograph is dated and that was marked directly on it so it wasn't much of a mystery. Whenever a date is written on a photo I back it up as best I can with census records or other documents.

Dating old photos is a fascinating subject. You would doubt enjoy the story of the Sheboygan Dead Horse photo which you can find links to here: http://www.forensicgenealogy.info/

I am wondering how you date these pictures - I have similar backgrounds and dresses in pictures in our bible - but I do not know what year - or approximately what years - could you tell me what year you believe these photos to be dated.
